All dietitians are qualified nutrition professionals, but not all nutritionists are dietitians.
As an Accredited Practising Dietitian (APD), I have completed an accredited university degree, meet strict professional standards, and undertake ongoing education each year.
Dietitians are also:
Qualified to provide medical nutrition therapy for chronic conditions
Recognised by Medicare, private health funds, and hospitals
Regulated under a national professional body
The term “nutritionist” is not regulated in Australia, which means training and qualifications can vary widely.
If you’re looking for evidence-based, personalised support—especially for medical or complex concerns—working with an APD ensures you’re receiving care that is safe, effective, and backed by science.
